 Winter layers

Who buys early hatches? We got some one February. They layed pretty well in the winter. It was kind of a hassle with having to keep pullets indoors past when I would have liked. That was an unusual winter, though. It stayed snowy way into June.

I always did when I was living in Tucson but I was also trying to get them up to where they would have a better chance of surviving the summer heat (didn't always work, but I tried). Not sure yet if I will do it now that I am back in Idaho. Will have to wait anyway until I get a different place. Where I am now, chickens are not allowed. :'(

Maybe they'd let you have a hen if she was kept penned? Just thinking of ideas here.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm only suppose to have two animals and I already have a dog and cat that are very much part of my family. I would have been lost a couple years ago if I didn't have them. Having to take care of them is what got me out of bed and outside shortly after my divorce. My kids were pretty much out on their own and taking care of these two critters keep me going. They are now my babies.

It will also be more of an incentive for me to get another place if I can't have or do what I really want here. ;)

Sorry to hear about the divorce, Wildflower. That's rough. :'( I KWYM about animals helping us through rocky times.

When are you expecting to be on the land? Three acres sounds like a dream. Tell me about your plans, I'd love hearing them.

Thanks for the kind words Star Garnet. Actually there are times when a divorce can be a blessing. He was verbally and emotionally abusive and was starting to show signs of getting physically abusive. So life has been much better since the split!!

As far as my plans, that sounds like a good idea for another thread!! ;)
