It's pretty quiet in here? Everybody busy? What have you been doing? I've been spending time with Matt, who left on Sunday morning for Manitoba where he's training for the next three months. Took a trip out to the military base he was stationed at here for a bit, went out to the mountains for some hiking and just relaxing. Busy planning the garden and I have decided to start some quilting projects. Also looking into classes to take as I'm planning to go back to school. Saw my brother off to Australia, gone for at least three months with an open ended ticket good until next year. He has found work on a farm over there already. Right, now how about you? Bre

It IS quiet. Everybody hibernating??? Wake up people, talk to us!
Now you have two men you'll be missing. Congrats on your brother's work. I have always loved Australia, but I have never gone. I'd love to.
You're going back to school, good for you, Bre! I'm getting ready to go in the fall, when little sweetpea is a few months older.
What do you have in mind for the garden? I always love to hear garden plans...
Will you be quilting with a group or on your own? Quilters make some gorgeous heirlooms. Let me know how that goes!
Over here, we are doing various homeschool projects. Dreaming about tomatoes. I'm going to try Kris' Basket Vee, I think. And some romas. I always love those on my homemade whole wheat "brick oven" pizza, named such not because it comes out of a brick oven, but because it's as heavy as a brick oven. Actually, I have changed the recipe over the years and it has improved greatly!
I cannot believe how fast this January flew, can you?

I'm pretty glad that January is over, or at least the cold weather from it. We were down to -45c or colder on some nights for about two weeks. And it hasn't really stopped snowing. Didn't leave the house unless I had to. Star Garnet, what classes were you looking at taking at school? There's a Prairie Horticulture Certificate offered by some of the universities up here through correspondence, that I'm interested in. The garden will most likely be small this year. Lots of containers because I don't know when I will be moving. My Mom is also planting some veggies in some raised beds she has planned. We're working from scratch. Clay and weeds in the backyard because it's a newly built house in a suburb. I'm going my quilting on my own, I took at beginner's class in December and I'll probably just do some simple patterns to start. Squares mostly. . It's machine quilting though, and I'm interested in learning how to hand stitch them, any suggestions? SG, you'll have to share your pizza recipe. Bre

I'll share my pizza recipe as soon as I write it out. I'm notorious about not measuring anything!
I'll be taking classes for geology with an emphasis in mineralogy. I'll be able to do part of the classes by correspondence, which is a big relief to this busy at-home mom. (Someone said to me, all at-home moms are working moms... "Ain't it the truth?" LOL) Tell me about the Prairie Horticulture Certificate. What do they require, etc.? It sounds pretty cool.
Containers, yes, same here. We'll be nuking the thornballs, tilling and putting up a fence.
Don't worry, all your hard work will pay off, Bre. Just start dreaming of those beautiful veggies!
I'm just learning sewing myself. I do leatherwork, but it is different. I think Kris is one of the crafty seamstress ladies here (?) It would be cool to try our hand at different projects and share pictures here, wouldn't it?
Well, off I go to tuck in the little monkeys for the night. Have a good evening, Bre.

Hi Gang,
There have been BIG changes at work and I will probably not be in much for the next 6 to 8 weeks!! The temporary day instructor has gone on medical leave for the next month and I have been asked to take her class on top of my own which means I will be pretty much tied up, but I do plan on being back, just not sure when. I'll see ya'll then!!

Wildflower, good luck on your extra teaching duties! Let us know how they turn out.
Star Garnet, Sorry for the delay in responding. Work has been busy.
The Prairie Horticulture Certificate allows you to concentrate in one of four areas: landscaping & arboriculture, fruit & vegetable production, nursery crop production and greenhouse crop production, but you can take any course you want on top of that. You need a grade 12 education but as far as I can tell you can contact the schools and see about their special registration, but doesn't say what they are. Here's a link to what the whole thing is about http://www.oldscollege.ab.ca/phc/. It doesn't matter which of the four schools you sign up through, you just get the material from the school offering it. Olds College is the cheapest of the four, at least in Canadian funds.
We should share pictures of our handiwork. I should take a picture of my hand and show my first quilting related accident from yesterday, too, lol. Cut my hand pretty good. . It was my own fault for not paying attention.
I have leatherwork on my list of skills to learn, how easy is it? Where should I start?
I'm gonna try and post some pictures using Frank's instructions tomorrow, if I remember, to add to Kris' contribution.
Bre

Gollleee y'all. We done missed March altogether! Must be a Very Busy Buncha Folk roun' hyear! Me, I'm still packing and moving to the new place. Plus getting dental work done. Ouch! But the most important reason for this post is I want to ask KrisW: How do you put a picture onto (or into?) a post???? I've seen others do it and have wanted to do it, but just don't know how . . . you got instructions or something? By the way, my computer is an eMac, just fyi, and I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

WOW, -10 degrees!! That’s COLD, I’ve been in –3 and thought I’d die, my freezers not even that cold. My goodness you are tougher than I am! Planting tomato’s is a good plan, you’ll be ready when spring get there, keep up the positve attitude!! It snows here (1/2") every 3 or 4 years, we run around the yard like 4 year olds, the neighbors think we are loopy. But then again maybe we are!
As far as pictures go, Frank explained it to me, this section, post called Hey Frank. If you need more help, just ask, I’ll try to be here more, now that the garden is getting under control.
Have a good day all,
Kris
