I live in Texas zone 8 and first I would like to let Star Garnet know that in Texas we call those obnoxious plants sticker burrs, sand burrs or grass burrs. There are two ways to tackle them. One is to fertilize whatever else you have growing and it will choke out the sand burrs. The other tactic is to use pre-emergent weed killer to keep any new ones from germinating while digging up the old ones or you could use weed killer, I suppose but I don't. Running over them with a mower shoots out the burrs which are also the seeds and might spread them but if you have a bagger that might not be a problem. Getting them out of and off of the bag might be a problem, though. Good luck.
